This lovely morning brew contains acorns, roasted dandelion root, roasted chicory root, reishi mushroom, milk thistle, cacao and ashwagandha. Devised on a weekend away with my friend Sylvia, we'd both quit coffee and were trying to figure out something to drink in the mornings that had the same kind of density to it. Something that felt substantial enough to be a proper morning drink. It's not a coffee substitute, though I guess you could say the flavours are somewhat similar. It's definitely *more* than coffee though. The acorn is slightly nutty, the cacao chocolatey.
Chicory and dandelion are both bitter herbs that are great for liver function and digestion.Milk thistle is a liver trophorestorative.Reishi mushroom is calming, grounding, and helps with the metabolic function of the whole body, plus, liver support, cardiovascular support, all around utter brilliance. Ashwagandha supports adrenal function, help to nourish the body and give it sustained energy over time.
It's basically an all-around brilliant tonic for your body, and it tastes delicious when brewed up for a morning drink. I like to simmer it on the stove for a few minutes, then pour directly into a mug, add a spoonful of honey and a generous dollop of cream.
This drink does have a *tiny* amount of caffeine, in the cacao, but other than that is caffeine free.
